Leaders of Quantum-Safe Canada annually organize and support a number of events in Canada and worldwide that support key objectives. These events include the ETSI-IQC Quantum-Safe Cryptography Workshop, QIP, QCRYPT, TQC and QKD Summer School. Quantum-Safe Canada will continue to support these and other initiatives as the field quickly grows and matures.
The ETSI-IQC workshop series brings together diverse players in the quantum-safe cybersecurity community to facilitate the knowledge exchange and collaboration required to transition cyber infrastructures and business practices to make them safe in an era with quantum computers.
QIP is the premiere global conference on the theory of quantum information, and its steering group has included academic leaders of Quantum-Safe Canada since its beginnings almost 20 years ago. The event itself has been held in Canada several times.
QCRYPT is the premiere global conference in quantum cryptography, and was initiated by a small steering group that included leaders from Quantum-Safe Canada. It started in 2010. Each year, it was held in different parts of the world.
The TQC conference series started as a workshop in Japan in 2008, and with Canadian leadership, it has become a global conference that has been held around the world. It was held in Waterloo in 2009 and in Guelph in 2013.
The International Quantum Key Distribution (QKD) Summer School is a five-day program focused on theoretical and experimental aspects of quantum communication with a focus on quantum cryptography. Established in 2008, QKD occurs every other year at the Institute for Quantum Computing at the University of Waterloo and was last held in August 2019.
Upcoming and 2020 Events …
QIP 2020 was held from 6 to 10 January. It was jointly hosted by Shenzhen Institute for Quantum Science and Engineering (SIQSE, Southern University of Science and Technology) and Center for Quantum Computing (CQC, Peng Cheng Laboratory). The scientific objective of the series is to gather the theoretical quantum information community to present and discuss the latest groundbreaking work in the field.
This leading annual international Conference on the Theory of Quantum Computation, Communication and Cryptography, was being held virtually on 9-12 June 2020. This is the 15th in a series of conferences that aims to bring together the theoretical aspects of quantum information science community to present and discuss the latest advances in the field.
Workshops for the professional and technical skill areas are offered in the spring term. It will be held virtually. Professional workshops include areas like intellectual property protection, and commercialization. Technical workshops include areas like cryptography, network security, and quantum information. It is currently offered to graduate students and postdoc fellows at the University of Waterloo.
This unique nine-day enrichment program accepts exceptional students age 15 and over. It is hosted by the Institute for Quantum Computing. This year, the program will be conducted virtually from 6-14 August 2020. It has space for 44 participants. Applications are now closed.
